taggie animals tutorial

Due to a few requests, here is a simple tutorial for making tag animals - little stuffies that have ribbon loops attached so you can hook them onto tag blankets, stroller bars, bouncy seats, etc. with a plastic ring.

Here is a template for an alligator and an elephant:
Right click on the image to save, and print as a full 8x11 page to get the proper size.

Materials needed: scrap fabric, 4 inch lengths of coordinating ribbon, pillow stuffing, and embroidery thread

Using the template, cut out two alligators (they should mirror each other) and two 4 inch long pieces of ribbon (cut four if you want it to have four legs).

Fold the ribbons in half and stitch to one of the fabric cut outs. The looped side should face inward.

Lay the fabric cut outs on top of each other, with the right side facing in. Stitch around all the edges, leaving an opening of approximately 1 1/2 - 2 inches (for stuffing).

Cut a small snip at the inward curved edges, making sure that you don't cut through your stitches. This will help the fabric not to pucker when you turn the alligator right side out.

Turn the alligator right side out and stuff with pillow stuffing.

Hand stitch the opening closed.

Embroider the eyes, nostril and mouth, and your alligator is complete! The process for the elephant is almost identical. To see the finished product, see my Girlie Tag Blanket post.

Enjoy. :)
