birthday fabric

My mother-in-law gave me fabric money for my birthday - what a treat! I ordered a pretty bundle I've been eyeing from purl soho and it arrived this week. I was not disappointed. This combo will make such an adorable baby girl quilt. I'm going to take my mom's advice and use a eyelet trim around the edge for a bit of extra girliness. Now all I need to do is learn how to quilt!

Recipe: Fresh Strawberry Lemonade

Tonight I hosted book club and my lemonade was pretty tasty. Here is the recipe:

1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
3/4 cup pureed fresh strawberries
1 cup sugar
6 cups water

Jam Season

I made my first batch of strawberry last night - so yummy. Now that I know where to order fruit pectin online, I can't wait to try blackberry, raspberry, boysenberry, mixed berry...

to my Mom...

Happy Mother's Day! I sure do love you. Thank you for all your support and encouragement throughout my life. You always defended me, even when I didn't deserve it. You stuck my my side during my craziest years, often acting my voice of reason. You tried your best to keep me level headed and focused on what is really important, and because of that, I feel like I owe most of my accomplishments to your advice and better judgment.

For the last four years, I have had another special lady in my life. Verlene, you are the kind of mother-in-law a girl could only dream of. Thanks for all of your love and friendship, and for raising such a wonderful son. I feel lucky to be a part of your family.

I'm on a lucky streak

Back in April I won a giveaway over at Cool Mom Picks - a beautiful personalized birth necklace from LittleJules. Pretty, right?

I had a hard time getting a good, clear picture (the pendant is less than 3/4 inch square), but you get the basic idea - check out the website for much better pictures. On the front, you have your choice of baby hand or foot prints and the baby's name, and on the back they will engrave all the birth info - date, time, length and weight.

Well, it just so happens that on the same day I found out I won, my good friend had her first baby boy. Great timing, right? I really love this necklace. It is so delicate and pretty and makes the perfect gift for a new mom (hint, hint, Jared - take note of this for later).

Prepare yourself - this may be the cutest thing ever

All you crafters out there should check out the blog, Wee Wonderfuls. The author, Hillary Lang, is super talented and generous - she has a few of her darling original patterns posted as free downloads. I can't wait to try the Wee Bunny. She also has these paper dolls to download and cut out. So, so cute. I printed them out on magnet paper and they are now adorning my refrigerator. Originally, I was going to sent them out to my sweet little nieces, but the magnet paper I bought is more fragile than I thought it would be - I think it would tear pretty easily in little hands. Until I can find some more heavy-duty magnet sheets, this pretty little set is all mine. I can think of a few big girls who might want one, too.

Design Mom is so cool

Have you heard about this?

Seriously. Best thing ever. I mean, Design Mom is always amazing, but she is really out-doing herself this week. Head on over and post your comment. Good luck!

Ellis Island

We had such a beautiful event at Ellis Island this last weekend for work. I can't take credit for much of it, but the decor was so outstanding I couldn't help but share a couple of pictures. It was so fun (and a little stressful) to be all fancy for an evening.

I've been busy

busy, busy, busy. Things have been busy at work - we had a big event on Saturday. Plus, I have been working on a few projects lately and overall, just going to bed a little earlier and skipping my late night blogging time. Hopefully I'll get back on track soon. Anyway, I wanted to finally post pictures of what I sent out in the mellow+yellow swap.

I think my favorite part was the box - I wrapped it with my favorite paper and put on a few coats of Mod Podge - I am hoping Lacey can get some extended use out of it.

I also really liked making the stitched cards. I had never really sewn on paper before, so it was fun to experiment.
